Sakura means cherry blossom in Japanese and it is the name of one of the first female characters I created in this style that sparked this whole series. I was really inspired by the colours and overall atmosphere of the first Sakura Matsuri festival I attended in New York in 2006 and later I started to study the Japanese art and culture already visually influenced by watching shows anime shows like Sailor Moon growing up. The Sakura identities series is the result of my experimentation on female characters that carry elements from pop culture, comic books and manga and has been one of my most typical work styles for several years now.
